Black History Month!

February is Black History Month and a great opportunity to mix history with English!

I've used the webquest  below a few times in classroom and students have found it really interesting and quite different from what is offered in the coursebook.

The Dirty War of Argentina

It's always challenging attracting the interest of adolescents when teaching English at high school. They find coursebooks a bit boring and we teachers often find ourselves wondering what topic to choose to spark their interest. Especially in my country students of high school are preparing for the University entrance exams and focus only on stem subjects. One of the topics that they found interesting and thought provoking is the following topic combining history and English.

Here is a worksheet based on the Dirty War in Argentina and the children of the disappeared.(the children of the abducted citizens who were considered subversives by the regime).

Also, here is a webquest based on the Dirty war and the mothers of Plaza de Mayo who struggle to find their missing children and grandchildren.
