A royal Inside Job

Teaching our students about famous landmarks and monuments in the UK can be a pain in the neck. You need to find material meaningful and interesting to them that eventually will entice them to find more info about these.
Watching TV the other day, I came across TravelChannel documentaries "Greatest mysteries". It was an episode about  Buckingham Palace and mysteries about it.

Click here to watch the video.

Below there is an online activity based on the video.

And here is a crossword based on law and crime vocabulary

"Beholder" film

This an interesting and thought-provoking short film about the future in a tech society.

Beholder takes place in the Red Estates, a gated community of the future where citizens are law-abiding and conservative. At a medical center where patients can genetically choose the characteristics of their unborn babies, Sasha, the wife of a politician is informed that her baby carries the genetic marker for homosexuality. By the laws of Red Estates Sasha must fix the problem by getting inoculated and get rid of the bad genes. She has to decide whether to conform to the rules of society or risk everything and move to more free place

The worksheet contains vocabulary based activities.

"Crossover" film video

Another interesting video to show to your students is "Crossover" by Tina Mabry.Again here as in Charlie 13(also foud under the labels Film and Future) the main topic is our future in a tech society.

In Crossover, Angela would like her two children, Jennifer and Quincy to “cross over” from their poor public school into the well- equipped  private school in a restricted section of the city. To make her dream true she is willing to sell her organs and manage to pay for their chance of a better future.

The worksheet contains vocabulary based exercises.

"Charlie 13" film video

A few months ago I took my first Coursera course called Digital cultures and digital learning. Participating in this MOOC  course I came across some interesting videos about the future of technology and I decided to use some of these in my class.
Therefore I have added a worksheet with activities based on the short film "Charlie 13".

The video is about a boy who lives in a tech society in the future.
On the eve of his 13th birthday he is obliged to get a tracking device implanted and get controlled by the government like every other citizen in the city.
